Role: Back-End Developer
Team: Product
Remote | Freelance | Project-Based | Option for Full-Time Transition

The Writer's House Collective is building something a bit different. We're an interdisciplinary consultancy + agency designed to step in where growing companies need the most help—and we're looking to build a trusted bench of freelance collaborators as we scale.

We're currently onboarding freelance Senior Back-End Developers to support us on a project-by-project basis. This is ideal for someone who loves partnering with sharp teams, delivering excellent work, and potentially becoming part of something bigger down the line.
In this role, you may be asked to:

-
Design and implement scalable back-end architectures using Python and SQL/NoSQL databases.
-
Develop and optimize serverless functions to enhance system performance and cost efficiency.
-
Manage and process large datasets within complex systems across multiple cloud environments.
-
Collaborate with front-end developers, DevOps, and product teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery.

You're a great fit if you:
-
Are experienced in Python, SQL & NoSQL databases, with a strong track record in back-end development.
-
Have hands-on experience with serverless functions (e.g., AWS Lambda, Cloudflare Workers) and multiple cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP).
-
Demonstrate expertise in handling large datasets and building robust, scalable systems.
-
Communicate clearly and collaborate well across teams.
-
Deliver quality, thoughtful work—on time and on brief.
-
Are curious about being part of a bigger mission, but don't need to jump in full-time just yet.

What you should know:

-
This is a freelance, hourly role. Work will be offered on a per-project basis, depending on client needs. We'll keep your name at the top of our list for product projects aligned with your expertise.
-
This role is fully remote within the United States and requires reliable computer and internet access.
-
If you're a strong fit and want to grow with us, you'll be considered for a full-time salaried position in September 2026.
Compensation:
-
Hourly / Project-Based: Rate determined by experience and project scope.
-
Bonus: Long-term freelancers may receive performance-based cash bonuses.

Let's build something worth scaling.
